I was born at Presbyterian Hospital and lived in Charlotte until the age of ten. I moved to the Mint Hill area in 1964 with my parents. I say the area because the town itself was not incorporated until March 11, 1971 when I was a junior at Independence High School. My wife, Kelly, and I married in 1988 and we currently live in the house that I grew up in; surrounded mainly by neighbors that I have known most of my life. I have seen the changes that have occurred to Mint Hill over the years, some good and some bad.
For the past sixteen years I have worked for the Town of Matthews. I am a certified NC Firefighter II, NC Rescue Technician and a NC EMT. I am a licensed NC locksmith, license #0004. My current position at Matthews is EMS Chief and I serve as the department head over fire and EMS. I previously worked for Union County where I served as a Paramedic Shift Supervisor. I am a small business owner, running a part-time locksmith business. I previously worked full-time as a locksmith running my own business and managing my uncle’s lock shop. I also worked for several years as the paid chief of a non-profit combination paid – volunteer paramedic rescue squad.
I have always been involved with the community. I have served as a volunteer EMT. I have been involved with the Boy Scouts and Exploring program. I have taught CPR and first aid classes for the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, CPCC and Union Technical College. I currently serve on the NC Locksmith Licensing Board and I am a Charter Member of this board. I also currently serve on the NC EMS Advisory Board. I have served on a committee of the International Association of Fire Chiefs evaluating national EMT training standards. I am scheduled in October to serve a week with the Department of Homeland Security evaluating national grant requests for fire departments and rescue squads. I am involved with my church, Matthews United Methodist, where my wife and I participate in local, national and international mission trips.
My true desire is to serve the community. I believe to serve you need to listen to the people to learn what their needs are and not provide for them what you think they need. I feel that my previous work history and life experiences give me the ability to serve the citizens of Mint Hill wisely. I hope that you will give me the opportunity to serve.
