Why I want to be your Mint Hill Town Commissioner:

We have two Mint Hills.  A Mint Hill born of a slower time and enjoying the many benefits and fruits of the hard work it has accomplished.  Second, an upscale, faster pace Mint Hill which is attempting to embrace the slower pace, and all the while making us a destination for those wanting to raise a family.  How we merge these two Mint Hills will be the challenge we all will face in the future.  I want to be a major part of helping this new growth and I offer these ideas and assets

First, our greatest resource is our citizens.  We must foster the generous volunteer spirit that is so widely practiced here in Mint Hill

Second, I am constantly honing my knowledge concerning the management of Mint Hill.  I will foster my relationships with everyone in government, and state my desire to continue our fiscally sound and responsible practices.  I will also use my working relationships with other Charlotte, Mecklenburg and State officials in my duties as our town Commissioner

Third, I admire our current Town Manager's hard work and will promote the fact that our town’s employees are an important resource who should be respected

Fourth, as an early retired business owner, I have always approved a proactive approach to problems and not operating constantly in a crisis management mode

Fifth, my marriage to by bride of 32 years and later my graduation from our own University Of Charlotte at Charlotte have been the first and second most joyous events in my life, I want to add my service to Mint Hill as my third

Sixth, I support recreational, artistic and cultural venues and would like to see more social opportunities for our youth.  Scouting, Church Youth, Groups and School groups serve us well and should be expanded.  However I am a firm believer that these should be funded by volunteer effort so that we all can benefit from them with minimal government interference

These are the bullet points I want you to remember:

• Consider Impact Fees and investigate legal changes needed to apply them based on the square footage of the homes built
• Investigate possibilities for extending sewer service into all existing areas of town.
• Seek out consultation from experts in town planning to advise best use practices which are consistent with the future we all want for Mint Hill
• Decrease speeding
• Add bike paths and sidewalks especially to schools
• Support our safety professionals and make sure they have State of the Art Equipment and Training to keep us safe
• More emphasis on services for the elderly such as back yard garbage pick up and more programs opportunities
• More recycling
• Traffic studies before any new developments are approved
• Live web of our town meetings and downloads available on demand
• Our own zip code for just Mint Hill

Finally the most important decision this new town board will make is the new Town Hall.  The future of Mint Hill will be reflected in our new Town Hall and will shape what we will become in the future.  I want to help us focus on what is needed now but be a catalyst in the future
